I have a free email newsletter called, “Consider It Done.” Back in January, I told my subscribers about my plans to lose weight. Was I crazy or what?
I’m doing well but I had to overcome one bad habit: “werewolf eating.” Just like a werewolf comes out at night, most of my poor choices took place after the sun went down.
What to do? Should I eat more during the day? How about more protein and fewer carbohydrates? I tried everything, but the werewolf continued to howl.
Finally, I figured it out. For me, “hunger” is sometimes just a conditioned response. I “feel” hungry at 9:00 PM for no other reason than I felt hungry the night before. It feels real, but it’s a lie.
Here are two ways to beat the werewolf:
- Ignore it: Sometimes if you turn your mind to other things, the werewolf goes away.
- Plan for it: Save room for a healthy snack at werewolf time. Low-fat popcorn is a good choice.
