I. No matter how appealing and desirable a goal may be,
we won’t reach it unless we’re willing to pay the price.
If we insist that it must be easy, and we must never
experience any discomfort or struggle, then we won’t do
what is necessary to get where we want to go.
There are emotional stages that people go through when
dealing with any unpleasant truth. These are denial, anger,
bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
In a nutshell, here is how we think in each stage:.

+Denial: “It will just happen because I want it to.”

+ Anger: “It’s not fair that I have to do this. Other
people seem to do this without much effort. I could do it
if I got more support from my spouse/ kids/parents/boss.”

+Bargaining: “Maybe I can get by with doing it halfway.”

+Depression: “It’s no use. It’s just too hard for me. I’m
not up to the job. I should have known that I would give
up. I’m a loser!”

+Acceptance: “I’m at peace with the fact that to reach my
goal, I’ll have to do some things that I don’t want to do,
and I may have to give up things that I don’t want to give
up. Nevertheless, the goal is worth the price.”

Obviously, acceptance is where we need to be. If you’re
bogged down in reaching some important goal try to figure
out what stage you’re in. Chances are you haven’t reach
the acceptance stage.

If you’re not at the acceptance stage yet, go back and
reevaluate your original goal. Is it really worth the
price? If it is, then make a conscious decision to move
in the direction of acceptance. That’s the first step
toward getting unstuck and moving ahead.

II. Weight Loss Tip: Here are my tips so far:

1. Drink at least six glasses of water a day.

2. Keep a daily journal of everything you eat.

3. Write your “payoff list” of why you want to lose weight.

4. Find ways to constantly remind yourself of your payoffs.

Now that you know “why” you want to lose weight, honestly
evaluate if you have accepted that there will be a price
to pay. No matter how user-friendly your weight loss
program is, there will be times when you will pass up
something that you want to eat. You don’t have to suffer
but you will sometimes have to make choices that you would
rather not make. Once you have reached the acceptance
stage, the struggle ends and you just do what you have to do.
