II. Weight Loss Tip

I. Last time, I talked about how important it is to have
a clear picture of what the payoffs are for completing any
project. Why do you want to lose weight? Why do you want
to finish your dissertation and get your doctorate?
You need to be able to "see" the payoffs in ways
that are specific, detailed, and as emotionally charged.
And (this is important!), you must write down your payoff
list and attach a date to it.
Here's an example: "My Ph.D. degree has qualified me for
my well-paid consulting job with… (name your company).
My income is… (name your income). I have a beautiful
office (describe your office). I love my work (describe
your work). My spouse/parents/kids/friends are so proud
of me. Some people didn't think I could do it. I've
proven them wrong! This will be accomplished by
June 2004."
When you put your dreams in writing and attach a date to
them, they become goals. Until then, they're fantasies!
Next time, we'll talk about how to stay motivated by
keeping your payoffs in front of you.

II. Weight Loss Tip: Here are my tips up to this point:
1. Drink at least 6 full glasses of water per day.
2. Keep a journal in which you write everything you eat.
My next tip will sound very familiar. Write your payoff
list for losing weight. Make your payoffs as specific,
detailed, and emotionally charged as possible. Describe
in detail how you will look, how you will feel, how your
health will improve, and how your success will impact
other people in your life. And, be sure to attach a date
to the accomplishment on you weight loss goal.
That's all for now. In the meantime, keep your dreams in
front of you!
